How hard is a pick-up conversion?
My idea is to take a cheap car like:
And just cut the roof and trunk and make a pickup? The car will be lighter, more unique and maybe more fun to drive?
Like this guy:
The only problem with this is having it inspected so it is legal. The things they are looking at is safety and structural rigidity, is that hard to regain after cutting the roof?
How hard can it be?

Pretty damn hard.
It would be/result in:
A. Being leaky as a motherfucker.
B. Having sharp ass edges.
C. Being so structurally unsound it wouldn't even be funny.
D. Lots more.

Why would it be leaky?
sharp edges can and must be removed.
Structural problems are the only ones I can think of.

Because you've just cut a good portion of the roof off.

Cutting it is easy, keeping it from leaking and folding up like a taco will be difficult.

How would you make it more secure? some sort of rollbar?

i hate that two of may favorite car designs ever were turned into these, but i do appreciate the effort.

I've seen it done. It's less work with a body-on-frame vehicle, because the body isn't so structural. I've seen unibodies fold in half. There's some redneck as shit stuff on the Tubes of You.

Reinforcing the unibody or adding some kind of roll cage. You've just chopped part of the structure off, so you'll need to make up for that, much like a convertible.

Hard to keep the style....
